Pickering
is located just a short drive from the City of Toronto, Canada’s
largest city, and offers an accessible country setting ideal
for film producers looking for a rural flavour all our own. Country
roads meander past turn-of-the-century farmhouses, quaint
rural villages and rolling farmland.
With
abandoned graveyards, historic homes, wooded conservation
areas and a pioneer village home to an 1850s temperance hotel,
church, barn and blacksmith shop, Pickering has long been a
favourite location for filmmakers.
2007
productions filmed in Pickering include "The Russel Girl", "Traitor",
"Skyrunners" and "City of the Owl" as well as commercials
for Life Cereal, McCain Slow Cookers and Lotto 649.
Productions
in Pickering in 2006 include the TV series
"Runaway", feature films "Camille",
"Diary of the Dead", "Lars And The Real
Girl", and commercials for Mazda, Ford, Tim Horton's and
Coors Light.
The
film industry’s recognition of Pickering is a source of
pride among staff and Council who work hard to ensure the City
remains a professional and accessible film location. We
understand the needs of the film industry and strive to
facilitate your stay with us.

PICKERING
MUSEUM VILLAGE
Nestled
on the banks of Duffins Creek in the quaint village of
Greenwood, the Pickering Museum Village recreates daily life
in the Pickering Township of the 1800s. It’s home to
15 buildings dating from the 1830s, including a general store,
chapel, town hall, blacksmith and woodworking shop, homes and
barns.
The Redman House is the newest
addition to Pickering Museum Village. Boasting a broad
verandah, this house blends beautifully into the streetscape
of Pickering's living history museum. A central heating
and cooling system makes it comfortable for year round use.
The building offers a large meeting room with fireplace, a
fully appointed kitchen, public washroom facilities, and is
fully wheelchair accessible. A staff lounge, costume
storage and maintenance facilities, as well as men's and
women's change rooms, can be found on the second floor.
Filming
fees do apply for location filming here. The fee is $150 per
hour plus GST for production hours and $75 an hour for set
dress/wrap days. An on-site museum staff person is included
in this fee.
