DALAR CONTRACTING LTD. MARKS 20TH ANNIVERSARY

When Dalar Contracting Ltd. was incorporated 20 years ago, it focused its attention on small commercial projects as it built a team of experienced construction and project management professionals.

Along the way, this Pickering-based company added retail and manufacturing facilities to its impressive portfolio. As it celebrates 20 years as one of the most successful construction companies in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), President Dennis Large takes pride in listing some of many facilities Dalar has built.

In Pickering, Dalar completed the design build of a 30,000-square-foot office and warehouse for Crossby Dewar on Silicone Drive. Other projects include a multi-tenanted commercial plaza at Kingston and Whites Road, numerous stores at Pickering Town Centre and its own state-of-the-art headquarters at 1053 Brock Road.  Construction of a 25,000-square-foot warehouse for SPAR-Marathon nears completion.

In addition to constructing banks, drive-through branches, drive-through restaurants and GO Transit terminals, Dalar has undertaken many renovations. "Our greatest feat was when we started building car dealerships about six years ago," Mr. Large reports. "Pickering Honda was our first dealership. We have built many dealerships since then, including Sheridan Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac in Pickering."

One project at a time, Dalar has earned a reputation for providing cost-effective solutions for quality buildings - on budget and on time without compromising the integrity of the design.

Leading-edge technology helps it manage projects, but human resources - including project managers, site superintendents, foremen and skilled tradespeople - remain crucial to Dalar's success. "What builds the company are the people who are here," says Mr. Large.

As part of its commitment to meeting the needs of its clients, Dalar recently added Design Build to the services it provides. This rapidly-growing service allows Dalar to take care of everything from obtaining legal surveys, topographical drawings and soil reports to preliminary designs.

Once required approvals for site plan agreement have been obtained, Dalar retains and manages professional consultants, such as licensed architects, structural engineers, and mechanical and electrical engineers. Dalar's logo - 'Built With Pride' - reflects its attention to detail and commitment to a job well done.

Much of Dalar's work is in Durham. "This region is a growth area. We have technology here and two power plants within 30 miles of each other," Mr. Large notes. "This is the energy sector of Ontario."

A strong community supporter, Dalar has raised more than $30,000 for local charities through its annual charitable golf tournament.
