Ontario Power Generation To Consolidate High Tech Jobs Into New Pickering Office

[PICKERING]: Ontario Power Generation today announced it will relocate nuclear engineers and other expert support staff into a new office that will be located at Brock Road and Clements Road in Pickering.

"Durham Region is fast becoming the energy capital of Ontario and we believe this new facility will form a talent hub for our nuclear support staff," said Graham Brown, Ontario Power Generation's Chief Operating Officer. "By concentrating the skills and talents of engineers and expert technical staff to Pickering, we will integrate the knowledge and skills of our site and support experts, improve productivity and enhance our operational and safety focus."

"The City of Pickering is proud and delighted to have OPG expand its business presence in our community," said Pickering Mayor, Wayne Arthurs. "The proximity of the new office building to Pickering Nuclear, coupled with the City's modern transportation and communication services, excellent shopping, dining and quality of life, make Pickering an ideal location for the new office building and home for its many staff families. We welcome and appreciate OPG's continued growth and commitment to our community."

"Today's good news is another positive development in our community from OPG. This investment and the jobs it brings are another step by OPG that will strengthen Pickering's economy," said Janet Ecker, MPP. - Pickering-Ajax-Uxbridge.

OPG's recent restructuring activities have focused on attaining greater levels of integration and alignment within the organization. Along with efficiency gains, this relocation of about 450 engineers and expert staff will save time and money by having key resources and staff much closer to the work sites at Pickering and Darlington.

OPG will be issuing shortly a Request for Proposal to design, build, and lease back this new 115,000 sq. ft. facility. The facility should be ready for occupancy in late 2004 or in early 2005. The site, at the southeast corner of Brock Road and Clements Road in Pickering, was selected because of its close proximity to public transit, amenities and the Pickering generating station.

Ontario Power Generation is an Ontario based company, whose principal business is the generation and sale of electricity to customers in Ontario and to interconnected markets. Our focus is on the risk-managed production and sale of reliable electricity from our competitive generation assets. OPG's goal is to be a premier North American energy company, while operating in a safe, open and environmentally responsible manner.
