City of Pickering
2011 Annual Accessibility Plan
The
purpose of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA)
is to improve opportunities for people with disabilities and to
provide for their involvement in the identification, removal,
and prevention of barriers to their full participation in the
life of the province. The ODA mandates that all municipalities
prepare annual accessibility plans.
To
this end, the City of Pickering has prepared the 2011 Annual
Accessibility Plan. The plan has been reviewed by the City of
Pickering Accessibility Advisory Committee and was endorsed by
Pickering Council at their January 17, 2011 Council Meeting.
By
the end of 2011, the City of Pickering aims to review and/or
remove the barriers identified in the 2011 Annual Accessibility
Plan. Over the next several years, the City of Pickering aims
to address all facility related improvements as outlined in the
City’s 2000 Accessibility Audit.
Hard
copies of the City of Pickering 2011 Annual Accessibility Plan
are available at the Pickering Civic Complex (Customer Care
Centre) and the Pickering Public Library located at One the
Esplanade, Pickering.
