Although
you may leave a message with our after hours message centre,
we recommend that you call us during our next business day to

is your shelter? |
| A. |
Our
shelter is located at 15 Reesor Road, Toronto (north west of
the Metro Zoo between Finch and Steeles Avenue). |

about its safety? |

The
Humane Society of Durham Region is responsible for
handling situations where the animal may be in distress or its
welfare is being compromised. |

for sick or injured wildlife? |

A. |
Wild
animals are the responsibility of the Ministry of Natural
Resources however, Pickering Animal Services will respond to
calls for sick or injured wildlife on City Streets or City

Does
Animal Services pick up stray cats? |
|
A. |
Yes,
however we will only pick up stray cats that are sick or
injured. If you have a stray cat hanging around your home, do
not feed it. Feeding the cat will encourage the cat to stay as
opposed to returning home. If you know where the stray cat
lives, we will speak with the cat owner to ensure compliance
with City By-laws. Before contacting us we ask that you please

Who
do we report animal bites or scratches to? |
| A. |
If you
have been bitten or scratched by an animal we suggest that you
first
visit your doctor. Your doctor will automatically file a
report to the Durham Regional Health Department. If you would
like us to investigate the situation further, please ensure

Does
my cat have to be on a leash if outside? |
| A. |
Yes.
The City of Pickering's Cat and Dog Bylaw states that no
animal may
run at large within the City. If you choose to put your cat
outside it must be on a leash or enclosed in your yard. In
addition, all cats must be licensed with the City on a yearly
basis. |

If I
see a dead animal on the road, who do I call? |
| A. |
Animal
Services will pick up and dispose of all dead animals. |

Is
it Animal Services job to just issue tickets? |
| A. |
No.
Pickering Animal Services is dedicated to educating owners
about
their pets, and teaching them responsible pet ownership.

neighbour never picks up after his dog, what should I do? |
| A. |
We
suggest that you first speak to your neighbour about your
concern maybe they are unaware of the bylaw. If this does not
work please contact us with the following information:
· Address of where the dog resides
· Day/time that you witnessed the incident
· If it is re-occurring we suggest that you try to take a
video and/or photograph of the situation. (this would be used
if we decide to pursue charges)
An Animal Service officer will
visit the dog owners and educate them about the laws. |

Yes, the City’s first leash free area is located at Grand Valley
Park, located on the Third Concession, west of Valley Farm

The Ontario Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) has recently

animals for adoption? |

All animals available for adoption can be viewed from our
adoption page or by visiting our shelter, or satellite
adoption sites. Satellite adoption sites are located at Pet Valu
(705 Kingston Road), PJ’s Pet Centre (Pickering Town Centre) and
at PetSmart (1899 Brock Road). |
