One third of all pets are lost at least once in their life. Animal Services is committed to reuniting all lost pets with their owners. If you have lost your pet, please visit our lost pet photo page to see if they have been found.

If your pet is not posted, we ask that you give us a call at 905.683.7575 and provide us with the following information:

  1. Name, Age, and Breed of dog.
  2. Location, Date and time last seen.
  3. Distinguishing features (collar, microchip, tag, tattoo, etc…).

We also suggest that you do the following:

  1. Check around your home and neighbourhood. Ask friends and neighbours if they have seen your pet and if so, when and where?
  2. Place notices, preferably with a picture of the missing pet near the location it was lost, at local pet stores and other businesses in the area.
  3. Visit all local animal centres, veterinary clinics and humane societies.
  4. Place advertisements in the Lost and Found sections of the local newspapers.
  5. Check back with us on a regular basis as we impound new animals each day.

If you find your missing pet, please let us know so that we may remove them from our records as a missing animal.

Found Pets

If you have found a stray dog or cat please call us at 905.683.7575. We will check our lost animal reports to see if someone has reported the animal missing. If the animal is wearing a City of Pickering licence tag we will be able to check our database to determine the owner of the animal.

If we cannot find the owner of the animal, arrangements can be made to have an Animal Services staff stop by to pick up the animal. Once the animal is in our possession, Animal Services staff will do the following:

  1. Scan for a microchip (microchip companies).
  2. Re-check our lost animal reports to see if we have a potential owner.
  3. If no potential owner is found, Animal Service staff will transport the animal to the Animal shelter where it will be housed for the remainder of its stray period.
  4. Within 24 hours of impoundment, an animal photo will be posted on our Lost Animal Site.

Impounded animals are housed at the Pickering Animal Services Shelter, located at 15 Reesor Rd (north west of the Metro Zoo between Finch and Steeles.

Animals may be picked up between the following hours:
Monday-Friday: 8:00 am -12:00 pm and 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
