By-law Guide for Pickering Residents
FILL &
TOPSOIL DISTURBANCE
Overview
The
Fill and
Topsoil Disturbance By-law 6060/02 regulates changes to
properties which will involve either the removal or addition of
fill or topsoil, or changes to the grading. Property owners
undertaking this type of work may be required to obtain a Fill &
Topsoil Disturbance Permit from the City.
The permit process allows the
City to review a large number of potential issues which may
arise when large scale changes to grade are proposed. These
include erosion and sediment control, the protection of
watercourses, professional engineering to establish appropriate
grading and drainage, a review of trees and vegetation affected
and many other factors to be considered.
What you should know ….
The installation of swimming
pools, or land disturbance related to minor gardening or
landscaping use do not require a permit for fill and topsoil
disturbance.
Any work involving the addition
or removal of more than 2 dump truck loads (20 cubic meters) may
be subject to a permit.
