By-law Guide for Pickering Residents
PARKING - RESIDENTIAL PARKING PROVISIONS
Overview
The vehicle parking provisions of
Pickering’s Zoning By-laws are in place to set standards for the
types of vehicles permitted to park on residential properties.
What you should know…
Generally, residential lots in
Pickering are permitted to park a maximum of four vehicles on
the exterior of the lot. Should a resident wish to park a
trailer on their lot, the trailer will count as one of the four
permitted vehicles. Only one trailer is permitted on each
residential lot.
Should additional parking be
required, residents are encouraged to make use of their garage
or carport. Vehicles parked in a fully enclosed building or
structure do not count as part of the four vehicle maximum.
A General Guide
- Vehicles parked in the front
yard of a residential lot must not exceed 6.7 meters in length
or 2.6 meters in height (maximum size applies to boats, RV’s,
campers, etc.);
- Vehicles parked in the front
yard of a residential lot must be parked on a hard surface that
prevents water from pooling (e.g. asphalt, concrete,
interlocking stone, gravel);
- Vehicles parked in the side or
rear yard of a residential lot must not exceed 8.0 meters in
length or 3.5 meters in height (maximum size applies to boats,
RV’s, campers, etc.);
- Vehicles parked in the side or
rear yard of a residential lot must be setback at least 1.0 metres from neighbouring property lines;
- Any vehicle parked / stored on
a residential lot must be in an operable condition, ready for
immediate use on the roadway (vehicles must have valid licence
plates, and adequate insurance coverage);
- Vehicles lacking valid licence
plates or adequate insurance coverage should be stored in a
garage.
