By-law Guide for Pickering Residents
BASKETBALL & HOCKEY NETS, SKATEBOARD RAMPS & OTHER OBJECTS
Overview
Recreational sports and
activities are a great form of exercise and are encouraged by
the City of Pickering. However, often times basketball nets,
hockey nets, skateboard ramps and other play equipment are left
unattended on streets. These items create safety issues for
drivers and make clearing streets of ice and snow very
difficult.
What you should know…
The City of Pickering has enacted
regulations which make it mandatory for residents to remove
obstructions from both the boulevard and the roadway when
they’re not in use. An obstruction may include a basketball net,
a hockey net, a skateboard ramp, or any other such equipment.
Should an item fail to be
removed, a notice may be attached to any obstruction which is
left unattended on a boulevard or roadway providing 24 hours to
remove the item.
Failure to comply with the notice
may result in the obstruction being removed and impounded at a
secure site for a period of 30 days. The obstruction may be
reclaimed within the 30 days at a cost of $50.00. Should a
resident fail to claim the obstruction within 30 days, the City
will take ownership of the item and make arrangements for its
disposal.
If your basketball net, hockey
net, skateboard ramp etc. has been removed by the City of
