By-law Guide for Pickering Residents
TREE PROTECTION
Overview
The City of Pickering has enacted
this by-law to prevent the destruction of healthy trees in the
specified tree protection areas, in an effort to protect and
preserve the environment.
What you should know…
Generally, a permit is required
to remove any tree in a protected area in the City. Protected
areas usually run through and adjacent to watercourses and green
spaces. Please
click here to view a map outlining the tree
protection areas [1.9 mb PDF].
This By-law is actively enforced
at all times by the Durham Regional Police Service, the City’s
Municipal Law Enforcement Services, and the Toronto and Region
Conservation Authority. Failure to obtain a permit prior to
felling a tree in a protected area may result in fines of $1,000
per tree or $10,000 whichever is greater.
Should you observe someone
injuring or destroying a tree in a protected area, please
contact the City’s Customer Care Centre at 905.683.7575,

hours, please contact the Durham Regional Police Service at
