Message from the Mayor
Pickering is
achieving great things. As we leave our Bicentennial year
celebrations behind, we hope to make 2012 just as big and
bold, and I invite you to come experience all that our great
City has to offer.
We are continuing to build on our successful foundation and
focus on downtown intensification. While Pickering is
steeped in history and small town charm, I take pride in the
journey we have made in thrusting our City to the forefront
of major players in local economic development. We are
dedicated to business and, as a city of opportunity,
committed to helping businesses succeed and thrive.
I believe in sustainable growth through responsible
development, and Pickering is making great progress in
becoming one of the most sustainable communities in Ontario
through our award-winning efforts. The brand new $23
million fully enclosed pedestrian bridge links our downtown
to the Pickering GO station and serves as our icon to
engineering and sustainability.
Pickering is one of the most diverse municipalities in the
nation. In fact, we are a microcosm of the world.
The resulting economic and friendship ties that we have
nurtured over the years positions Pickering very well in the
global economy.
As Mayor, I am a staunch advocate for open and transparent
government. Since 2007, I have held town hall meetings
to meet face-to-face with residents to discuss any ideas,
concerns or suggestions they may have. To be even more
sustainable, accessible and environmentally friendly, last
year I introduced the concept of a Virtual Town Hall meeting
so that residents could participate from the comfort of
their own homes. Please remember that my door is
always open to you and feel free to drop me a line at
