The Legal & Legislative Services Division is responsible for providing legal
advice and support to City Council, the Chief Administrative Officer
and departments on City-related matters, coordinating representation
before the Courts, administrative boards and tribunals.
Documentation relating to all goods and real property purchased,
sold, licensed and leased by the City and services retained and
delivered by the City are handled through Legal Services.
Other areas of responsibility include the Clerk's Office and its
four sections comprised of Animal Services, Legislative Services,
Municipal Law Enforcement Services and Print/Mailroom.
The City Solicitor is available by appointment to notarize

The Legal & Legislative Services Division serves only the corporate entity that
is the City of Pickering. The Legal & Legislative Services Division is not able to
provide anyone with legal advice on personal matters. For assistance
on a personal legal matter, you should contact a lawyer. If you do
not have a lawyer, the following services may be of assistance:
- Lawyer's Referral Service - Monday to Friday from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5 pm.
This service offers Ontario residents a 1/2 hour free
consultation period with a lawyer. Referrals can be made to
lawyers within the Pickering area who can give you further legal
advice. The Lawyers' Referral Service can be reached by

- The Durham Community Legal
Clinic provides free legal advice. They do not do family or
criminal law.
