PLANNER II

Under the general direction of the Manager, Development Review and/or the Manager, Policy, the incumbent researches, analyzes, prepares and presents reports to Council or Committees of Council on a wide variety of municipal planning matters with a particular emphasis on development applications and policy. Other responsibilities include the development of planning recommendations for departmental consideration; the presentation and discussion of findings and recommendations with politicians, developers, internal staff and the public; and the implementation of planning decisions.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline, from a recognized University.
  • Membership or eligibility for full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Three years of progressively more responsible relevant work related professional planning experience, preferably in a municipal environment.
  • Detailed knowledge of planning procedures, legislation, municipal functions, official plans, zoning by-laws, land description, and mapping.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem solving, verbal communications, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize moderate to highly complex policy reports, planning projects, and development applications and convey complex or detailed information in a manner that is understandable to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in a rational and informed manner appropriate to the situation, obtain consensus, and resolve issues.
  • Ability to represent the Corporation at Ontario Municipal Board hearings, meetings, and other functions.
  • Ability to identify priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic keyboarding skills with a working knowledge of personal computers and Windows-based software applications.
  • Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Divers License. A clean driving record is preferred.

Remuneration includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan and a base annual salary range of $53,300/annum - $59,220/annum (based on a 35-hour work week).
