MANAGER, URBAN DESIGN
An immediate opportunity exists for
an experienced professional to provide leadership for high quality
urban design and architecture in City developments. Responsibilities
include planning, coordinating, and directing the work functions
associated with site plan control provisions of the Ontario
Planning Act, providing professional and technical input and
advice on urban design policy, developing urban design guidelines
and design concepts, and managing the Department’s participation in
Heritage matters under the Ontario Heritage Act.
You will possess a degree in
Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning with an emphasis in
urban design and hold a current membership with a related
professional organization. Your education is supplemented by a
minimum of five years’ diversified and progressively more
responsible work experience in urban design and architecture at a
senior planning level, including two years in a supervisory role.
You will be well versed in the Ontario Planning Act, Ontario
Building Code, LEED and the Ontario Heritage Act. You will be
experienced in urban and architectural design processes and best
practices, planning and land development practices, planning policy,
computerized analysis and design techniques, and emerging municipal
urban design, planning and development issues.
The ability to convey urban design
concepts using graphic programs and sketches is critical. You will
have excellent urban design, analytical, presentation,
organizational, leadership, project management, negotiation, and
customer service skills. Establishing and maintaining effective
business relationships with employees, elected officials and the
community is essential.
You must have a personal vehicle and
a valid class “G” driver’s license and be willing to provide a
satisfactory criminal reference check as a condition of employment.
You will be proficient in Windows based applications, CAD and
graphics programs and be able to work evenings, as required.
Remuneration includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension
plan, performance pay and a competitive salary (based on a 35 hour
work week).
