CITY OF PICKERING
PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE #2
Pedestrian Bridge Over Highway 401
Schedule 'C' Class Environmental Assessment
The City of Pickering is currently
undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment for a pedestrian
bridge that would provide a barrier free connection from the south
side of Highway 401 at the Pickering GO Station to the north side
of Highway 401 in the vicinity of the Pickering Town Centre. The
Study is being conducted in compliance with Schedule C of the Municipal
Class Environmental Assessment (June 2000), which is approved
under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.
Public Open House #1 was held on
October 19, 2005. Information was exchanged between the public,
government agencies, other stakeholders, and the Project Team
regarding the Study scope and issues, the problem/opportunity
statement, alternative ways of crossing Highway 401, and the
preferred solution of constructing a pedestrian bridge over
Highway 401. Public Open House #2 will provide the public with
an opportunity to review and discuss alternative design concepts
and components for the pedestrian bridge, their evaluation, and
related environmental considerations. This will assist the
Project Team in determining what the bridge will look like (form
and architectural features), how it will connect to grade at
either end, and how it will operate (functional features,
amenities, and green technologies). Public comments obtained at
the meeting will be incorporated into the final Study
recommendations and design decisions, which will be documented in
an Environmental Study Report (ESR). It is anticipated that the
ESR will be completed in early 2006, and a Notice of Completion
will be published at that time.
Display material for the Study
will be available for viewing in the Pickering City Hall Lobby
from December 12 through 15, 2005.
The second Public Open House has
been scheduled for:
Thursday December
15, 2005

One The Esplanade, Pickering
