Council Recognizes Corporate Makeover Champions
Pickering, ON – On April 21st, City
of Pickering Members of Council recognized the corporate
partners who helped the City carry out the 4th annual 20-Minute
Pickering Makeover. The local Makeover was part of a GTA wide
initiative.
Representatives from Pizza Pizza,
Home Depot Canada Inc., McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, TD
Friends of the Environment Foundation, Toronto Star, Toronto
Sun, and Tim Hortons were all praised for their continued
support.
“The City of Pickering has
embarked on a journey to become the most sustainable community
in North America and I commend these leading corporations for
joining us on this journey,” said Mayor David Ryan. “By
supporting initiatives such as the 20-Minute Makeover, our
corporate partners are making a real and meaningful difference
by beautifying our community, fostering civic pride, and
promoting stewardship.”
“In 2008 over 12,000 people from
Pickering businesses, community groups, schools, and
neighbourhoods registered to participate; it was a great way to
kick off Pickering Earth Week,” said Chantal Whitaker,
Coordinator, Environmental Awareness Program.
Those who want to get involved in
other great upcoming free events such as lawn and garden
workshops, tree planting and interpretive hikes should log onto
sustainablepickering.com/ea to find out more.
For those who missed out on the
Makeover but would like to volunteer to tidy up around a
neighbourhood park, shoreline or greenspace can host a
Pitch-in-Party. It’s simple, you select the date that your
family, friends or co-workers want to clean up and the City will
help by providing clean up supplies and pick up and dispose of
the bags when you are done. Contact the City of Pickering at
905.420.4660 ext. 2043 to get involved.
