Against the Wall
Mural Event
On Saturday, May 5, 2007, the City
of Pickering hosted the first ever Against the Wall Mural Contest.
The Free event invited Pickering Teens, ages 13 to 19, to paint a
mural on one of the newer walls installed at Diana, Princess of
Wales Park, behind the Pickering Recreation Complex. The event
brought out 9 artists in total, along with some local skate
boarders and break dancing enthusiasts.
Each artist had their own space on
a wall to paint, and by the end of the day there were 9 great, new
pieces of art!
Prizes were awarded for first,
second, third and fourth place pieces. All 9 participants received
a t-shirt and the top four winners received additional prizes from
PineRidge Arts Council, Tribal Gear, Switch Skate, Sonz of God
clothing, S and J's and City of Pickering.

Congratulations to Paul Allen for
placing first in this competition! Paul received $100 donated by
PineRidge Arts Council for this event. Second place went to
Cassandra Quaye, third place to Josh Sherland and fourth place to
Kwame McKenzie.
Special thanks to the event judges:
Danielle, from PineRidge Arts Council, Jeff and Darryl, from H
& E Motifs and Kim Kranc from City of Pickering.
