Your Table Is
Ready
Imagine, if you will, a long
summer’s eve, the musky smell of a fire, smoke curling from the
stone chimney of a little log house perched on a low hill. At
the doorway of the cabin beckons a woman, the lady of the house,
and she invites you into her home to a seat at her table to
share the evening’s meal. Pickering Museum Village announces the
introduction of Summer Solstice Suppers by reservation only on
Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from June 13 to 29.
Guests at Summer Solstice Suppers
will step back in time to enjoy an evening of nineteenth-century
dining and leisure activities, hosted by the local “innkeeper”
in her log home. Lively conversation about life in the 1830s
backwoods of Pickering Township and culinary traditions and
techniques will most certainly be on the menu! Those who wish
can assist with meal preparation, and observe the variety of
cooking implements being used in the hearth. While dinner is
cooking, the innkeeper’s servants and friends will keep guests
entertained with parlour games and outdoor amusements.
Reservations include a choice of
two multi-course meal options, featuring authentic recipes from
the era, and served at the dining table in the log house. The
evening begins at 6:30 pm and concludes at approximately 8:30
pm. Suppers are $45/person on Fridays and Saturdays, and
$40/person on Sundays to a maximum of eight people per night. To book a place at the table,
phone Pickering Museum Village at 905.683.8401. Solstice Suppers
are not suitable for children under the age of 12.
Pickering Museum Village is
located 3 km east of Hwy 407, just off Hwy #7: Ten quick clicks
from the center of the City of Pickering.
