Spring Programs
Spring is here, and Spring program
start up is just around the corner! Get out of the house and
join us for a fun and exciting recreation program! The City of
Pickering provides a variety of programs to suit all age groups
and interests.
Pre-school Programs for children
0 - 5 years, operate at the Pickering Recreation Complex, in the
Creative Centre and the Combatants Room. "Parent and Tot"
programs are offered for toddlers from 6 months to 3 years. The
focus is on social interaction, excerise and to have fun with
other children. Programs for children 3 - 5 years are without
parental assistance, and Creative Centre staff are preparing
programs with a big emphasis on preparation for school!
Kindergym programs in the Combatants Room (which is fully
padded, and has a wide variety of gym and soft equipment) work
to develop eye-hand coordination, gross and fine motor skills,
body awareness, balance and good social skills.
A wide variety of Children's
Programs are presented at the Pickering Recreation Complex.
Children looking to learn a new skill or just have some fun can
try Children's/Youth Art; Wild Life Art; Home Alone: Mad
Science; Children's/Youth Guitar; Sportball; and Table Tennis.
Dance Programs including Ballet; Jazz; and Hip Hop; and Hip Hop
Level II, are offered at East Shore and West Shore Community
Centres. Karate is also offered year round at West Shore
Community Centre.
For adults wanting to Dance there
is all kinds: Ballroom, Latin Night Club, and Bellydance. Adults
wanting to join a new activity, or just wanting to get out for
an evening can take a variety of Art Classes; Guitar; and more!

In addition, we have The Drama
Club (8 - 13 yrs), Jewellery Making (10 - 14 yrs), Youth Break
Dancing (10 - 14 yrs), Children (6 - 8 yrs) and Youth Ball
Hockey (9 - 12 yrs) and Pickleball (8 yrs +) for youth. Don't
forget about our summer basketball and volleyball clinics for
youth ages 10 - 13 years. The Youth Leadership Program is also a
great idea for those aged 13 & 14 years, to participate for two
weeks, three hours each day in the summer months.
For adults 55 and better we have
several programs to participate in, which include Fitness
Classes, Art Instruction, Clog Dancing and Scrapbooking. Fitness
classes include Keep Fit, Stretch & Tone, Stretch & Strengthen,
Yoga and Osteoporosis Breakthrough programs. These programs
operate from East Shore Community Centre and/or Petticoat Creek
Community Centre.
