Can You Hear The Steam Whistle ?

You will on May 25 because at Pickering Museum Village steam will be up at the Gas & Steam Barn during our annual Steam-Up event. Come and check out all the fascinating machines and hear the steam whistle blow. In operation will be the Ericsson Hot Air Pump, the Buzz Saw, the Shingle Mill, the Splitter, the Victoria Hand Fire Engine, a 1930 Model A, a 1926 Rugby Fire truck, the Listor engine, vintage tractors, and more. The newly restored Ann Arbor Baler “The Baler for Business” will be on display. In the new workshop see the Waterloo Traction Engine being rebuilt. A visit to the barn is a must!

Come and see the heritage gardens of Pickering Museum Village full of spring colour. Need to fill in space in your own garden? Bloomers & Britches, the Heritage Gardening Club of Pickering Museum Village, will be holding their annual plant sale. Typically on sale are perennials such as day lilies, hostas, irises, sun drops and more. Prices for the plants range from $1 to $8, proceeds support the gardens of the Museum Village. The Museum Village heritage gardeners are knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share garden tips with all visitors.

Steam-Up is a great day for families to take a ten minute drive to the past and enjoy activities such as children’s games, weaving, dyeing, and spinning. Costumed interpreters will be cooking and offering samples to guests. Meet the blacksmith as he is working in his shop. Relax with a cup of tea and enjoy some sweets in the Redman House. Wagon rides will be offered throughout the village. Free with admission, Backwoods Players presents The Knight’s Quest at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm.

Come enjoy all the delights of spring at Steam-Up on Sunday, May 25 from noon to 4:30 pm at Pickering Museum Village. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $3 for children, families are $18, and preschoolers and Season’s Pass holders are FREE. Pickering Museum Village is located on the south side of Highway 7, 3 km east of Brock Road, just 10 quick clicks from central Pickering.
