New CAO Takes Helm at City of Pickering

Pickering, ON, June 1, 2010 – Today, Tony Prevedel, P. Eng. takes over the management reins of Pickering City Hall as the new Chief Administrative Officer.

An Honours B.A. Sc. graduate of the University of Toronto’s Civil Engineering program, Mr. Prevedel has devoted the majority of his career to municipal infrastructure, works and governance, both in the private and public sectors here in Canada and abroad.

Some of his career highlights include working on a variety of infrastructure projects in emerging Middle Eastern emirates and countries such as Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Oman and Yemen. One of his key projects was the construction of a major highway that spanned 400 km and incorporated 11 bridges on the Saudi/Kuwait border.

More recently, he joined the City of Pickering in June 2008 as Division Head, Facilities Operations, and has been actively involved in the City’s major facility expansions and rehabilitations, as well as a review of the operations hierarchy.

Mr. Prevedel’s tenure arrives at the cusp of a new golden era for the city. The Province’s Central Pickering Development Plan projects 70,000 new residents and 35,000 new jobs for Pickering over the next twenty years. Further, the downtown core will eventually see 10,000 additional residents and 10,000 new jobs in that span.

“As the new CAO, I look forward to helping Pickering realize its full potential as a dynamic young city,” said Mr. Prevedel. “As such, one of my primary goals is to ensure that the City’s service infrastructure will be better positioned and equipped to manage the vast influx of people and businesses that will be coming to Pickering over the next two decades.”

“I and my colleagues on Council have enjoyed working with Tony over the past two years, and look forward to collaborating with him in his new capacity,” said Mayor David Ryan. “I am confident that his wealth of municipal and infrastructure experience, in conjunction with his leadership skills and community-building vision, will help Pickering retain its status as one of Canada’s most livable and sustainable communities.”
