Pickering Central Library unveils its new iHelp Desk
The list of things you can do at
your local library just got longer! The Pickering Central
Library has added its new iHelp service at the Central Library.
iHelp is a brand new service desk that will act as a one-stop
location for all of your digital needs. iHelp has computer
terminals fully loaded with media editting software, such as
Adobe Photoshop, Garage Band and Final Cut, so that clients can
bring in their edit their own home videos, mix their own musical
masterpieces, or scan and edit their photographs. Digital photo
printing is also available! The iHelp desk will also allow
clients to check out downloadable audiobooks to their own iPod,
or check out a Library iPod pre-loaded with audiobooks.
This new service centre, unique
in public libraries, is aimed at removing the barriers to
participation in the new information economy. According to CEO
Cathy Grant, “The iHelp centre welcomes all clients – from teens
with digital skills who cannot afford the software and hardware,
to boomers with who have purchased their first digital camera
and don’t have the skills to create and share their digital
images. The iHelp centre is both a productivity centre and a
learning centre for the entire community.”
On Wednesday, June 10th at 10:30
a.m., please join Mayor Dave Ryan, Library Board members and
Library staff in launching this new service for Pickering
residents. Staff will be on hand to demonstrate iHelp programs
and to show you how iHelp can help you!
