Community
Organization Sign
Presentation & Celebration
Mayor Arthurs greeted all in
attendance Monday, June 3rd in Council Chambers. To celebrate the
Community Sign, the Council Meeting commenced with the Air Cadets
Marching Band.
Mayor Arthurs then addressed the invited
guests and visitors with the following comments…
"On behalf of the Members of
City Council, I am honoured to present to you the new City of
Pickering Community Organization Sign. The sign is located on
Kingston Road east of Brock Road acting as a welcoming sign and
proudly displays the important groups and organizations that make
our City a great Community. The sign has been designed around the
new City logo with a "cut out top" --- replacing the old
style sign. There will be additional sign locations.
We saw the installation of the new
sign as an opportunity to acknowledge and promote our community
organizations, whose community service continues to serve the ever
changing needs and whose programs, services, projects and efforts
contribute to Pickering's optimum well being.
The community organizations
recognized here tonight are:
Service Clubs
Community service organization whose primary purpose is to enhance
the quality of life and welfare of the Pickering community.
National Youth-Serving
Organizations
National youth-serving organizations whose primary purpose is to
develop in Pickering's youth, the attributes of leadership and
active citizenship.
Building Caring Communities
National organizations whose primary purpose is to help build a
caring community and respond to the broad range of human needs in
the Pickering community and whose primary function is raising
funds to provide direct financial support to funded agencies and
programs.
The Salvias have been planted at
the Community Sign on Kingston Road, east of Brock Road. As a
gesture of our great appreciation of the services each of you
provide, please accept these Salvia plants on behalf of your
community organization.
Potted plants were then presented to each group by members of Council.
