With Pickering being the most
diverse municipality in Durham Region, it concerned Mayor Ryan
that residents had to go elsewhere in order to take their oaths of
citizenship. For this reason, the City of Pickering lobbied
Immigration Canada for its own Canada Day Citizenship Court. The
City of Pickering is thankful for the opportunity and plans to
make it an annual special event for Pickering.
"I can't think of a better way
to celebrate Canada Day than seeing some of our own residents
sworn in as new Canadians," said Mayor Ryan. "It really
is a moving experience and I look forward to sharing with them our
collective love and pride for Canada and all it represents."
Please note, no filming or
photography will be permitted during the opening remarks and the
oath-taking portions of the ceremony.
