Pickering
launches Environmental Awareness website
The City of Pickering has taken
another important step forward on its journey toward
sustainability with the launch of its newly-revised Environmental
Awareness section on its website.
"Many residents already
recycle, drive less, buy locally-grown produce and choose
environmentally-friendly products. By visiting our revised
website, they can learn about additional steps they can take to
lead a more sustainable lifestyle and help protect the
environment," says Chantal Whitaker, Coordinator,
Environmental Awareness Programs.
The revised site more adequately
reflects the City's commitment to the environment and
sustainability, which is widely defined as meeting the needs of
the present generation without compromising the ability of future
generations to do the same.
The website highlights a variety of
initiatives the City has undertaken and explains how these
programs will help address environmental concerns within the
community. Visitors to the site can learn more about important
environmental issues like air quality, energy conservation,
community beautification, lawn and garden care, and waste
diversion.
Unique features include a quiz
called 'How Energy Wise Are You?' that invites visitors to test
their knowledge about energy conservation in and around their
home. Information on community events related to the environment
will be available online, along with helpful tips that will be
posted each month. The site will showcase award-winning residents
and the contributions they are making to Pickering's environment.
The easy-to-navigate site offers
links to useful external agencies. Visitors can also fill out an
online request form for educational publications to be mailed to
their home.
