COMMUNITY SAFETY
DAY
On Saturday, June 4, 2005, the City
of Pickering will be holding its first Community Safety Day
between 9:30 am - 1:00 pm at the Pickering Recreation Complex,
1867 Valley Farm Road.
The focus of this very special
program will be to provide an opportunity for families to join
together and interact on a variety of informative topics
pertaining to child safety.
"Children today face ongoing
threats to their safety, and it requires a team effort involving
family and public sector agencies", said Regional Councillor
Maurice Brenner, Durham Children's Advocate.

- Kids have a chance to win a bike
or a helmet
Presentations include:
- Internet Safety Session
featuring Joe Mitschang, Elementary School Liaison Officer
from Durham Regional Police Service
- Street Proofing Session
featuring Martin Winn, High School Liaison Officer from Durham
Regional Police Service
Displays & Activities
including:
- Tour the Fire Truck
- Airbrushing
- Barbecue
- Durham Children's Aid Society
- Kinark Child and Family Services
- Neighbourhood Watch
- High Five Program
- Home Alone Program
- Finger Printing
The Community Safety Committee is
comprised of Ward One Regional Councillor and Durham Region
Children's Advocate, Maurice Brenner, Ward Two Regional
Councillor, Bill McLean, Ward Two City Councillor Doug Dickerson
and City Staff.
This event is presented in
partnership with Durham Regional Police Service, Durham Region
Social Services, Pickering Fire Services and Ontario Power
