Pickering Council
Recognizes Corporate Makeover Sponsors
Pickering, ON, April 16, 2007 - On
April 16th, City of Pickering Members of Council recognized the
corporate partners who are helping the City carry out the 3rd
annual 20-Minute Pickering Makeover.
Representatives from Pizza Pizza,
Home Depot Canada Inc., McDonald's Restaurants of Canada, TD
Friends of the Environment Foundation, Toronto Star, Toronto Sun,
and Tim Hortons were all praised for their continued support.
"I commend these leading
corporations for supporting the City's commitment to
sustainability. In addition to cleaning up our community, events
like the 20-Minute Makeover, foster civic pride; promote
stewardship; and encourage people to lead by example," said
Mayor David Ryan. "By working alongside our corporate
partners and the seven other GTA municipalities that host
Makeovers, we are achieving real and meaningful results."
Since 2005 over 16,500 people from
Pickering businesses, community groups, schools, and
neighbourhoods have participated in this program. Registrations
for the 2007 Makeover continue to flow in so there is little doubt
this years event will be just as successful.
Roll up your sleeves on April 20th
at 2:00 pm, or pick a time that better suits your schedule, and
commit 20-minutes to cleaning up litter around the community. This
is a great way to celebrate the upcoming Earth Day.
To make it easy to participate,
gloves and special litterbags are available for pick up at all
participating Tim Hortons and Pizza Pizza locations throughout
Pickering. Supplies are also available at Pickering City Hall, the
Pickering Recreation Complex and all branches of the Pickering
library.
Groups are encouraged to register
for the 20-Minute Pickering Makeover by calling the Customer Care
Centre at 905.683.7575. This allows City staff to deliver clean up
supplies and haul away the litter you collected.
