Petticoat Creek Library Branch
Sets a New Record in March.
The Petticoat Creek Branch of the
Pickering Public Library system celebrated its busiest month ever,
reaching a record of 30,000 items checked out in March. This is
the highest circulation ever in a one-month period at the branch.
Pickering Public Library C.E.O.
Cynthia Mearns notes that the Petticoat Creek neighbourhood has
embraced its library. "The Petticoat Creek Branch is a great
neighbourhood asset for children, teens and adults in the growing
western part of the city", says Mearns. "Clients like
its cozy ambiance and relaxed service."
Branch Manager Colleen Bolin
couldn't agree more, "It combines the personal attention that
clients like in a small library with the advantages of being part
of a larger system."
The Petticoat Creek Branch opened
its doors in 2001 and is located in the Petticoat Creek Community
Centre on Kingston Road, west of Rosebank Road. It features
up-to-date collections for clients of all ages including a wide
selection of electronic games, DVDs and CDs as well as a vibrant
collection of fiction and research material. Bolin is pleased with
what the branch can offer, "Throughout the six years that
this library has been open, we have responded to the community
needs by adding new services and collections and by making the
branch as welcoming as possible for those who just want to sit by
the fireplace and read."
In addition to the record
circulation, the Pickering Public Library continues to be busy
with activities that have included a series of March Break
children's programs, the Battle of the Books, the introduction of
wireless internet access, and a variety of free workshops and
programs for clients of all ages. The Pickering Public Library
continues to set new records in online visits, in-house visits and
system-wide circulation reaffirming its contribution to the
community of Pickering.
