Pickering
Celebrates its Silver Slider
Pickering, ON,
February 25, 2010 – On the world’s biggest stage, Pickering’s
Shelley-Ann Brown powered her bobsleigh down an icy track and
into the collective hearts and minds of a nation when she and
her partner, Helen Upperton, captured Silver at the 2010
Vancouver Winter Olympics.
While all of
Canada shared in this extraordinary accomplishment, the loudest
cheers erupted in the City of Pickering as one of its own helped
‘own the podium’ on arguably Canada’s greatest single-day
performance ever at a Winter Olympic Games.
“On behalf of
the City of Pickering, its Members of Council, and staff, I
congratulate Shelley-Ann Brown for this most amazing
accomplishment,” said Mayor Dave Ryan. “She represents the very
best of athletics – pride; determination; humility; and most of
all hard work. We believe that through her brilliant example,
she has inspired a new generation of young athletes to pursue
their personal best.”
The City of
Pickering will plan a special presentation at a future Council
meeting to officially recognize and honour Shelley-Ann Brown’s
Olympic triumph.
