Waste Exchange Program
The City of Pickering has recently
launched a new Waste Exchange Program. This waste diversion
initiative functions very simply on the premise that what is
considered garbage to one person may be gold to another.
The City's waste exchange listing
act's as an intermediary that will try to match generators of
unwanted materials with potential end-users. Residents, companies
or institutions who have any unwanted non-hazardous
materials can list their items on the City's website with the
expectation that someone else in the community may have a suitable
use for it. Please review the current waste exchange listing if
you are looking for a specific item or apply to include an item on
the list that you have to give away.
A few examples of some gently used
materials that can be easily diverted from landfilling through the
use of the City's Waste Exchange Program include the following:
Bicycles
Lawnmowers
Windows |
5
gallon plastic pails
Doors
Clothing |
Let's all help to help reduce our
future dependency on landfilling by diverting as much waste as
possible.
