"Too often people become
accustomed to seeing these problems, yet we know from experience
that when these areas are not cleaned up it simply encourages more
of the same type of illegal behaviour," said Chantal
Whitaker, Coordinator, Environmental Awareness Programs for the
City of Pickering.
The City is asking individuals to
become part of the solution to help stop these negative and costly
acts by reporting them as soon as they occur. "We each have a
responsibility to do our part to maintain a healthy, safe and
sustainable community," said Mrs. Whitaker.
It's easy to get involved, just be
aware and look around your own neighbourhood while driving or
walking around the City. If you see an area or an item that has
been targeted with graffiti, illegal dumping, excess litter or
vandalism please contact the City of Pickering and report the type
of incident and its location. Incidents can be reported by either:
Calling Customer Care toll free at 1.877.420.4666, emailing customercare@city.pickering.on.ca,
reporting online at cityofpickering.com/eyesonthestreet,
or printing off the PDF copy of the online report and faxing it to
Customer Care at 905.420.4610
"The Eyes on the Street
program builds upon many of the successful educational activities
the City already coordinates. This initiative is being widely
supported within the community with help from the Durham Regional
Police Service, Ajax Pickering Board of Trade, Region of Durham,
Durham District Catholic School Board and the Durham District
School Board," explains John Hannah, Superintendent,
Municipal Operations.
