Juno
Beach Memorial Centre
With the help of
community partners, two City of Pickering Councillors, a group of
Pickering Army, Sea and Air cadets and their leaders and two local
veterans shared in a historical moment when the Juno Beach
Memorial Centre was officially opened on June 6, 2003 in
Courseulles sur Mer, France. Pickering Councillor Dave Ryan, who
organized the trip, said he felt this would be an important moment
in Canadian history that should be recognized with a delegation
from this area. While the group was there, they were able to see
plaques mounted at the centre in recognition of a $5,000 donation
the City made to the memorial centre and the cadets visited the
cemeteries where Canadian soldiers were buried and toured many of
the key battle points.
