Sobeys Inc. is
Coming to Pickering
The City of Pickering's Planning
& Development Department has received an application from
Sobeys Inc. for construction of a 48,400-square-foot grocery store
at First Pro Shopping Centre. Sobeys Inc. is a
national retail grocery and food distributor established in
1907. It has more than 1,300 corporate and franchised stores
in 10 provinces.
First Pro Shopping Centre is
located at the 48-acre site of the former Metro East Trade Centre
at Brock Road and Highway 401. When complete, the new
buildings at the shopping centre will have a combined gross floor
area of approximately 531,000 square feet. The trade centre
had a gross floor area of 292,000 square feet.
Developed and operated by First Pro
Shopping Centres, Canada's largest retail developer and operator,
the site is home to Wal-Mart and will welcome Sam's Club, one of
the first to open in the Greater Toronto Area, this fall.
First Pro Shopping Centre will be
home to about 25 tenants that includes Bonnie Togs, Danier
Leather, Everything For a Dollar, Joggers/Adidas, Mark's Work
Wearhouse, Reitmans, Thyme Maternity, Town Shoes, and SM2, as well
as McDonald's, First Choice Haircutters and the LCBO.
