Improving the
Frenchman’s Bay harbour entrance was identified as a
priority project in the City of Pickering’s 5 Year
Implementation Plan for the Pickering Waterfront and
Frenchman’s Bay. In 2007, the Province of Ontario
provided the City with a grant to complete an
Environmental Assessment, Work Plan and Financing
Strategy to improve the harbour entrance.
On May 20, 2008, City
of Pickering Council authorized Toronto and Region
Conservation to assume a leadership role in the
partnership with the City of Pickering to undertake
this work. The project will result in the creation
of a safe harbour entrance that supports the marine
functions of the bay, while preserving or enhancing
the ecological conditions. The project will also
consider opportunities to achieve a wide range of
objectives including improved public use and
recreation, environmental sustainability,
enhanced tourism and commercial linkages.

The project is
proceeding as a Schedule C undertaking in accordance
with the requirements of the Municipal Class
Environmental Assessment, October 2000, as amended
in 2007. This notice is to advise that a Public
Information Centre will be held on Tuesday,
February 24, 2009 at the City of Pickering Civic
Complex located at One The Esplanade in Pickering.
The meeting will be held in Council Chambers from
6:30 pm - 9:00 pm, with a brief presentation
held at 7:00 pm followed by discussion of key
questions at 7:30 pm.
This notice issued
