Members of the community with special needs are welcomed and encouraged to participate in community programs and activities of their choice. Our goal is to assist in the integration of people with disabilities into programs offered.

Please contact the Coordinator, Community Recreation Programs, at the Pickering Recreation Complex at 905.831.1711:

  • If you are interested in registering for a program, to discuss your program choice, and / or supports that you may require.
  • If you have any program suggestions, or group activities that you may be interested in.

We will work with you to ensure a safe, fun, recreational experience.

Come Play

The combatants Room at the Pickering Recreation Complex is open to children with Special Needs, their parents, siblings and friends. "Our Special Place" has soft activity equipment which provides hours of fun, in a caring and safe environment. Children must be directly supervised by an adult at all times.

Day & Time: Sundays 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Admission: $4.50 per family per visit
September to June


Special Children's Swim Program

This program is for children ages 2-19 years with any physical need, requiring help in learning to swim. It is a free session held once a week by a group of qualified volunteers who give freely of their time to help children along. The program is aimed at preparation for eventual integration into the regular community recreation program. Water is the finest form of exercise, combined with lots of fun and enjoyment. Fitness Equipment

Want to work out? The Pickering Recreation Complex has special pieces of fitness equipment suitable for people of all abilities. The Versa Trainer is a resistance training station that:

  • Incorporates full body strength, muscle development and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Consists of a cable pulley system that allows for complete range of motion.
  • Can be done from the comfort of a wheelchair.

The Arm Ergometer is a cardiovascular training machine that:

  • Incorporates upper body strength, muscle development and cardiovascular conditioning.
  • Can be done from the comfort of a wheelchair.
