Rebellion
was in the Air

In
December of 1837 the beginnings of responsible government
occurred in Upper Canada. One of the protagonists of that time,
Peter Matthews, will lead you on a journey through the events
leading up to a decision to rebel and the aftermath of what
would become known as the Rebellion of 1837.
Included in this first person presentation is the story of how
the Pickering Museum Village brought this history to life by the
creation of the award winning theatrical production "A Spirit
Walk: A Call to Rebellion". Learn how historical fact can be
woven with creativity to bring emotions of the time to life in
an enthralling entertaining event.
The Hand
That Rocks the Cradle Rules the World

This
interactive and lively presentation by costumed education staff
from the Pickering Museum Village traces the development of the
women’s movement in the 19th and early twentieth centuries. A
power point slide show is enhanced with a skit and will lead the
audience from the stirring speeches and songs of the Temperance
movement, through the gradual entry of women into the workforce
and on to the struggle for women’s suffrage.

Ale or Tea for Me!
(A Sober Look at the Temperance Movement)

A
costumed education staff member from the Pickering Museum
Village will trace the development of the Temperance movement in
Ontario by means of a power point presentation, some stirring
“speechifying” and a little audience participation. By the
end of it, some may even wish to sign the pledge!
Rural
Runway 1810-1910
$100 1 hour presentation
This
power point slide presentation will give insight on the changing
shape of fashions in the nineteenth and early twentieth
centuries, with particular reference to what ordinary people
wore. The costumed facilitator is the wardrobe mistress at
Pickering Museum Village and will bring along some vintage
clothing for viewing.
Heritage
Gardening
$100 1 hour presentation
One
of the gardeners of the Pickering Museum Village will take you
on a power point slide tour of the heritage gardens there,
discussing the development of rural gardens in Upper Canada from
survival gardens to the more leisured pursuit of ornamental
plantings.
Time for
Tea
$100 1 hour presentation
In
this workshop one of the museum village education instructors
will share the history of tea. There is sampling of
different teas as part of the presentation.
Stepping
Through Time
Pickering Museum Village’s, Stepping in Tyme Dancers can provide
your group with an entertaining and informative, customized
presentation of late 18th century to 19th century social dances,
in any or all of the following ways: costumed performance
of dances for entertainment; optional active participation
during demonstration by audience; lessons in period dancing;
brief historical talk of various aspects and development of
social dance, accompanied by demonstration. Contact
the museum village to discuss your group’s particular needs and
we will put together a package to suit your requirements and
site of presentation. Price and booking dates will vary
according to presentation chosen and availability of dancers.
