Bent over in her chair by the window
to catch the last light of day the seamstress strains her eyes
to count tiny stitches…well not exactly!! Although that is
how it would have been done in the 1800s the Costume Committee
of Pickering Museum Village makes reproduction costumes in a
much more modern way.
Some costumes are sewn
individually by this talented group. The committee meets every
Tuesday morning through the winter to work on mending, small
projects, and inventory. Periodically, sewing “bees” are held to
work on projects for a whole day.
| If you like to sew and think you
would enjoy working with this group and learning about fashion
history call the museum village at 905.683.8401 and leave a
message for Julie Oakes.
Pickering Museum Village is
located in the village of Greenwood, 3 kilometres east of Brock
Road and just off Hwy #7 on Concession Road #6 (west of Westney
Road).
