The Pickering Museum Village
Gas and Steam Club is a volunteer organization open to any
individual who has an interest in preserving historical
technology. The group meets regularly in their newly constructed
heated workshop where they research, rebuild, and restore
antique engines, tractors, vehicles and equipment of historical
importance. If you have an interest in heritage equipment or
just like to tinker with unusual and fascinating machinery,
consider joining this group of volunteers.
Each year the Club works to
operate the assortment of gas and steam equipment in the museum
village’s artifact collection at two special events. To do this,
volunteers are required to restore, maintain, research and run
the equipment.
Recently completed restoration
projects undertaken by the club in support of the museum village
and its events include: Ericsin Hot Air Pump and a 1938 Fire
Truck. Ongoing projects include the restoration of a 1931 Model
A Ford, the moving and reconstruction of the sawmill, the
construction of a heated workshop/classroom space, the
development of an interactive DVD, and the creation of a Science
and Technology education program.
The club meets every Saturday all
year round. For additional information, please call the museum
village at 905.683.8401 and leave a message for Harold Quinton.
