Beachfront Park
Beachfront Park rests on the north shore of Lake Ontario and is accessed from the southern end of Liverpool Road or Alex Robertson Park at the southern end of Sandy Beach Road and is one of Pickering's premier park locations. With Lake Ontario lying south of the park and the Hydro Marsh located to the north the park provides ample opportunities for nature appreciation particularly if you are fond of bird watching.
When you are at Beachfront Park take a moment or two to appreciate the unique ecological feature you are standing on. The beach is actually a barrier beach, which separates Hydro Marsh to the north from Lake Ontario to the south. The barrier beach protects the Marsh from storm events and allows this natural feature to thrive directly adjacent to the expanse of Lake Ontario. The most common type of wildlife sighted on the barrier beach are shorebirds. These birds spend hours running along the waters edge in spring and fall feasting on invertebrates. [see bird watching tips below]
As well as the natural beauty and ecological features of this park visitors to Beachfront Park are treated to; parking and convenient strolling opportunities along an elevated beachfront boardwalk, beautiful views across Lake Ontario, and generous seating and picnicking areas. Children will find hours of entertainment with play opportunities on the naturally occurring beach, our recently constructed splash pad play area, modern accessible play structures, swings, beach volleyball and a conveniently located washroom.
