Tools
for Adults can be mistaken as Toys for Children.
Many young lives are lost each year
because children are not properly educated as to the dangers of
matches and lighters. Children can easily mistake these dangerous
tools for tempting toys, and these deadly temptations are frequently
within reach of even the smallest hands.
Children are naturally curious, and
fire can be fascinating. But children need to be taught that fire is
dangerous and that matches and lighters are tools for adults.
Remember to keep matches and lighters out of reach of children, and
although some lighters have child resistant safety devices, this
does not mean that they are child proof. Parents should be
particularly cautious of multi-purpose (BBQ) lighters, which can
strongly resemble a toy gun, complete with a trigger.
Often a child starts a fire
unintentionally, and is unaware of the speed at which a fire can
spread. It only takes a few moments for an unsupervised child to
gain access to lighters or matches; and the consequences can be
deadly.
Please remember the dangers
associated with matches and lighters and do your part to protect
your children and your community. The moment that you take to
educate your children as to the dangers of fire may be the moment
that you save their lives.
